Dynamic Vocal Microphone with Built-In Preamp

An audio icon is reborn – the Shure SM7dB has the sound you’ve loved for years, but with the convenience of a built-in preamp providing all the extra gain you’ll ever need. The latest iteration of this legendary XLR dynamic microphone makes it easier for podcasters, streamers and musicians to get perfect vocals from any recording setup.

Built-In Preamp. Built on Legacy:
- The SM7dB is a dynamic vocal microphone with built-in preamp providing up to +28 dB of low-noise, flat, transparent gain ideal for almost any interface and simplified audio chains.

- Selectable Preamp Boost of Either +18 dB or +28 dB of Extra Gain
- Flat, Wide-Range Frequency Response for Exceptionally Clean and Natural Reproduction of Both Music and Speech
- Preamp Bypass Switch Deactivates the Preamp to Revert to Original SM7B Performance
- Bass Roll-Off and Mid-Range Emphasis (Presence Boost) EQ Controls
- Superior Rejection of Electromagnetic Hum, Optimized for Shielding Against Broadband Interference Emitted by Computer Monitors
- Internal “Air Suspension” Shock Isolation Virtually Eliminates Mechanical Noise Transmission
- Highly Effective Pop Filter Eliminates Need for Any Add-On Protection Against Explosive Breath Sounds, Even for Close-Up Vocals or Narration
- Yoke Mounting with Captive Stand Nut for Easy Mounting and Dismounting Provides Precise Control of Microphone Position
- Classic Cardioid Polar Pattern, Uniform with Frequency and Symmetrical About Axis, to Provide Maximum Rejection and Minimum Coloration of Off-Axis Sound
- Rugged Construction and Excellent Cartridge Protection for Outstanding Reliability

In the Box:
- 1 x SM7dB
- 1 x Close-Talk Windscreen
- 1 x 3/8” Thread Adapter

How It Works:
- The SM7dB has a built-in Shure-designed preamp, giving it enough oomph to work with any XLR interface. Providing up to +28 dB of gain, the preamp preserves the mic’s frequency response for that iconic sound. All you need is an interface or mixer offering +48 V of phantom power to operate the preamp. Don’t need the preamp? Flick the switch to the left to “bypass” and get original SM7B performance.

Why It's Better:

All the Gain You Need
- Never again worry if an audio interface might lack the necessary gain for great results. The SM7dB frees you from clunky in-line preamps and other accessories, while ensuring you get that classic SM7 tone no matter where you’re recording.

The Sound You Always Wanted
- Excellent rear-rejection and textbook cardioid pick-up pattern isolates your voice from background noise, ideal for less-than-ideal recording spaces.

Boost, or No Boost
- Miking loud sound sources like a guitar cab? Use +18 dB or bypass the preamp. Podcasting or recording quiet vocals? Select the full boost of +28 dB.

Quality That's in the Details:
- Shure engineers have painstakingly ensured that it has the same sound signature as the original SM7B.
- Whether you’ve activated the preamp or not, you’ll get the same great detail in your recordings from a proven dynamic cartridge and frequency range of 50 to 20,000 Hz.
- Hear all the highs and lows for truly natural-sounding audio.
- The SM7dB includes a custom Shure-designed built-in preamp with technology licensed from Cloud. The preamp has been created from the ground up and tuned by Shure’s expert engineers specifically for the SM7dB to ensure the iconic SM7 sound is able to live on inside the SM7dB; unchanged, unaltered and here to stay for generations to come.

Steve's Music Store Logo

Dear friends,

This is a difficult and sad messages and I am sorry that we have to write it.

My late father and founder “Mr. Steve” opened the doors in May 1965, at 18 years old with the dream of having his own business. With hard work, dedication and having a keen eye for hiring some of the industries best, Steve’s became the go-to place for aspiring musicians, well-known artists, and those with genuine interest. The years of mentorship and old school salesmanship built Steve’s into one of the country’s premier destination music stores.

We had just celebrated our 60th anniversary, with our stores in Montreal, Toronto, and Ottawa, having seen generations of clients’ parents to children to grandchildren. We were looking forward to seeing the next generation be inspired. Unfortunately, due to several factors, including the post-Covid world and the changing economy, we made the difficult decision to close and restructure the business.

After decades of laughter, late-night conversations, and the hum of instruments being tried for the very first time, Steve’s Music Store will be closing its doors.

We didn’t just sell guitars, drums, keyboards, or sheet music. We witnessed dreams' beginning. We saw shy kids strum their first chord and walk out with a spark in their eyes. We watched seasoned musicians find the perfect tone they’d been chasing for years. We shared stories, advice, jokes, and sometimes even tears. You weren’t just customers—you were part of our family.

The decision to close comes with a heavy heart, but also with overwhelming gratitude. Thank you for trusting us with your musical journeys. Thank you for letting our store be a place where creativity lived, where inspiration struck, and where community thrived.

In the coming days, we will share details about final sales, outstanding special orders, repairs, and rentals. Our hopes and desires are to make this transition as smooth as possible for everyone.

Even though the storefront will close, the memories won’t. The music you created, the moments you shared, and the energy you brought into our space will stay with us forever.

From the bottom of our hearts—thank you for making Steve’s Music Store a home.

With love and gratitude,

Mike K and the entire Steve’s Music family current and past.
