Description

Avantone's Gauss 7 is an active studio monitor with 1 7'' woofer and 1 GAU-AMT tweeter and 100 watts of power. Classics never die - Avantone is proud to bring Gauss back to the world with the Gauss 7 reference monitor. Decades after the demise of the Gauss Speaker Company, the line has returned with a proper (low-end) bang. The Gauss 7 combines the old school snap of old school near-field monitors with the bandwidth and frequency response of new school monitors. Its GAU-AMT tweeter offers ultra-smooth response, with an impressive stereo field - making hours of listening seem like minutes. The bent AMT driver can only be described as transparent and precise, with detailed transients. The Gauss 7 system offers a super-wide "sweet spot," precise imaging, and an impressive, natural, and precise midrange response. The Gauss 7 also has simple, yet very powerful acoustic adjustment controls. This, combined with the vertical dispersion of the GAU AMT, means clean acoustic response in any room environment. Gauss: the legend is back.

The GAU-AMT: a high-fidelity AMT driver.

At the heart of the Gauss 7 is the custom-designed, patented GAU-AMT tweeter. The GAU-AMT delivers the highest detail, even the most subtle waveforms. The GAU-AMT delivers incredible stereo imaging while maintaining a small vertical projection - this reduces unwanted acoustic reflections in a room, which helps minimize phase problems in an acoustic environment. The GAU-AMT's impressive transient response comes from its folded 65 mm polyethylene terephthalate (PET) film membrane, - the result is far beyond what can be achieved in typical dome tweeter designs. PET film was chosen because it is the lowest resonant frequency film and hosts the lowest crossover point - all while providing exceptional high-range frequency extension. The GAU-AMT coil is an etched aluminum PET film that is folded. The assembly is mounted in its own cabinet to avoid backwave pressure from the woofer. The state-of-the-art frequency response (up to 22kHz) is an exceptional reference monitor for a wide variety of music and sound materials. The "air frequencies" are not only audible, but very smooth. This not only provides an incredible reference monitor, but one that is built for listening for hours on end.

GAU-MLF WOOFER

A unique woofer design with old school snap

and new-school bandwidth.

The woofer of the Gauss 7 takes great inspiration from our AV10-MLF "white cone" woofer, but is still designed from the ground up. The woofer cone is a pressed design, made of the same patented blend of wood pulp and fiberglass found in the CLA-10 series woofer (AV10-MLF) - but with a large increase in materials. This provides the strong snap and fast transient response of the CLA-10, but with much more bass. Firmer voice won't be heard here - Gauss 7 provides a wide bandwidth for fantastic midrange and great bass reference. The woofer's motor structure is made of 1008 low-carbon steel - allowing maximum magnetic flux density between the polar part and the top plate. To top it off, the woofer's surround is a unidirectional Japanese styrene-butadiene rubber (SBR), which optimizes woofer power and excursion. A rear-firing bass port gives the Gauss 7 a controlled, yet vigorous low-end - firm response, without being the typical "overdriven" low-end found in other speakers in its price range

Easy-to-use acoustic adjustment controls.

Balanced XLR and 1/4" TRS inputs make connections very easy, but it takes a little more than that to give a monitor studio power. The rear panel of the Gauss 7 features powerful, yet easy-to-use acoustic adjustment controls - perfect for adjusting the system to your room. A three-position Acoustic Positioning switch lets you optimize the Gauss 7 for boundary spaces in your room. A three-position High Trim switch helps refine additional room problems. Each Gauss 7 has its own gain control for proper system calibration.
